What Tarot Deck Is The Best For Beginners?

I'm extremely grateful to have you here and super excited to take you on a Tarot adventure through my simple guide with few tips, what tarot deck is the best for beginners.

So - every Tarot Deck consists of 78 cards, divided into 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards. The Major Arcana are traditionally more significant, as they often represent large turning points however, the Minor Arcana are what allow Tarot readers to understand the subtleties and details that surround the major events.

To start learning the different meanings of the Tarot cards by heart – because this is what we all want in the end, right - we need to get a little intuitive and work with the images first. So for this easy start the Rider Waite Tarot Deck is a classic, and for good reason, also. It's not as pretty as the newer decks, but you can't go wrong here, either. It's fairly inexpensive and perfect for the beginner.
When I got my first tarot deck I went for what I found the most appealing to look at. I was trying to buy the deck I liked the most! Silly me! Well, maybe not the worst idea how to start. But rather than that, I should be considering how easily I would connect with the cards and be able to read them. It is quite simple actually.

This was okay at first, but over time it frustrated me that I was struggling to learn how to read tarot because I hadn’t purchased a tarot card deck for beginners.

Each card is full of symbols - but you will notice that every card has a few symbols that really stand out. Whether I like the card's meaning or not, it helps me to reflect on my situation and how to approach it. It provides me with clarity of what I have to do to move forward.

Finding the right deck for me was an absolute game changer when it came to learning how to read tarot cards.

If you’re just getting started with learning how to read tarot cards yourself, I highly recommend investing in a tarot card deck for beginners, and if you like special designs, mine is perfect for you.

What makes a good tarot deck for beginners?

So what exactly is a tarot card deck for beginners, you're wondering? I haven't marked any of my decks as suitable for beginners. Why? Because maybe you will find one that suits your needs and I would never thought about recommending it. Also others - more often than not a tarot deck won’t be marked as a “beginners tarot deck”. There are some factors that you might wish to consider depending on your own learning style and what would suit you best.

Crystal ball in person's hand

A beginner friendly tarot deck should ideally be really rich in symbolism and have clearly illustrated scenes on the cards. This makes it easier to interpret the card intuitively rather than just relying on memorizing keywords. It should align with common descriptions of the tarot cards, because you’re likely to search the internet for other interpretations. For the very first start I would recommend the following

5 tarot card decks for beginners

1 The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

is one of the most traditional tarot decks that you can buy. This means that it is perfect for beginners as almost every tarot reader out there will be familiar with this deck and its interpretations.

2 The Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

is a variation of the universal Rider-Waite deck.

3 The imagery in the Robin Wood Tarot Deck

is so descriptive, and designed in a way that makes the cards very easy to intuitively read.

4 Classic tarot

I definitely think this is one of the best tarot card decks for beginners out there because I find each card beautifully captures a scene that is easy to interpret intuitively.

5 The Gaian Tarot

is based on mother nature, otherwise known as Gaia. This is another deck that breaks the ordinary conventions of classic tarot. The Gaian Tarot is based on mother nature, otherwise known as Gaia.

Traditional imagery and a modern look

To be completely honest – if you are fascinated by the old, traditional Tarot decks like the original Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck, I would really suggest you try the Âme Tarot Deck created with a traditional imagery and a modern look.

The artwork is beautiful and the imagery is relevant from past to modern times. This deck has long been a favorite for beginners as well as tarot enthusiasts. Âme Tarot Deck brings you a new look without needing to learn new symbols and their meaning. It also comes with a Free Digital guidebook on site. Each card has unique illustrations created by me. Will be happy to hear what you think about it and how you challenge yourself with something old, but modern.

A card with text

And that’s my suggestion list of the best tarot card decks for beginners. I believe that there is a deck here for every beginner tarot reader, no matter your learning or reading style, and that no matter how many hours you've been practicing it, you will always go back to the deck you started with. It brings back some memories. And special energy. Let me know if there are any other tarot decks that you think should suit beginner readers. Let's help each other and make a better world by sharing some wise tips.
