Every year, right after the Halloween buzz settles, I feel a shift. The evenings get darker, the candles come out, and I start to crave quieter, deeper readings. That is exactly the mood of Scorpio season, which runs from about October 23 to November 21.
You do not need to know anything about astrology to enjoy it. Think of Scorpio season as a gentle invitation to look a little closer at the things we usually rush past. In this post I will share what this season means to me, which cards I like to pull, and a simple 3-card spread you can try tonight.
What Scorpio season means in tarot
Scorpio is a water sign, and it is often linked with depth, honesty, transformation and privacy. In many tarot traditions, the Death card is connected to Scorpio. Do not let the name scare you. In tarot, Death is rarely about literal endings. It usually points to a chapter closing, a habit you have outgrown, or a version of yourself that is ready to change.
Other cards that feel right for this season are the Moon, the Tower, Judgement and the Eight of Cups. They all ask similar questions. What am I holding onto? What am I ready to let go of? What do I already know but have not said out loud?
Why this season suits slow, honest readings
Summer readings are often about plans and energy. Autumn readings feel different to me. They are softer, slower and more private. It is a lovely time to sit with one question and really listen to what the cards show you.
Remember that tarot is a tool for reflection. The cards do not predict your future or make decisions for you. They simply give you a mirror and a few good questions, and that is often all we need.
How to set the mood
A little ritual makes a reading feel special. Here is what I do on a Scorpio season evening:
I dim the lights and light one candle. I put on soft music or sit in silence. I lay down a cloth so my cards have a calm space to land. My favorite for this time of year is the black and gold Skull Altar Cloth, which feels perfectly moody for autumn. I also keep a notebook and a pen close by, because the best insights often come while writing.
A simple 3-card Scorpio season spread
For this spread I like a deck with clear, familiar symbols, so I can focus on the meaning instead of searching for it. I often reach for my Âme Tarot Deck. It follows the classic Rider Waite tradition, with black and gold artwork that suits dark autumn evenings.
Shuffle while thinking about what you want to explore. Then pull three cards and place them in a row.
Card 1: What is hidden. What am I not looking at, or not admitting to myself right now?
Card 2: What is ready to change. Which habit, belief or situation has run its course?
Card 3: What grows from here. What could I welcome in once I make space?
Take your time with each card. Look at the colors, the figures and the small details first. Then ask what feelings come up. There are no wrong answers. If a card feels confusing, write down your first impression anyway and come back to it tomorrow.

Journal prompts to go with your reading
After your spread, pick one or two of these prompts and write for ten minutes without editing yourself:
What is one thing I am ready to stop carrying into winter?
Where in my life do I want more honesty, with others or with myself?
What do I keep returning to in my thoughts lately, and why?
What would a gentle fresh start look like for me this season?
When did I last feel truly at ease, and what was around me?
If you prefer a lighter approach, try pulling just one card each morning from an oracle deck and writing a single sentence about it. The oracle decks in my shop are great for this, because every card carries a short, friendly message.
Closing your reading
When you are finished, thank your cards and say goodbye to the moment in whatever way feels natural. Blow out your candle, close your notebook and put your cards away in a bag or on your altar. You can read your notes again at the end of the season and see what changed.
Scorpio season does not have to feel heavy. It can be cozy, quiet and quite beautiful. Grab a warm drink, give yourself an hour, and see what your cards want to show you.
I would love to hear how your spread goes. If you try it, tell me which cards showed up for you.
