Tarot has always been more than just a tool for insight. For me, it’s a mirror. A quiet space. A soft place to land when emotions start to feel tangled or unclear.
Over the years, I’ve found myself using tarot less for answers and more for comfort. A way to check in. To process what I’m feeling. To be kind to myself. And honestly, there’s something really healing about pulling a few cards when everything else feels loud or messy.
Today, I want to share a few simple tarot spreads and journal prompts I personally use when I need emotional clarity or just want to feel more grounded. You don’t need anything fancy. Just your deck, a calm space, and a little time for yourself.
Before You Start
Take a breath. Close your eyes. Let yourself arrive.
You don’t have to be in a perfect mood. You don’t need to have a deep question in mind. The only thing you need is a willingness to be honest with yourself and hold space for whatever comes up.
If you like, light a candle or burn some incense. Or just sit quietly with your cards. Follow what feels good to you.
Spread 1: Emotional Check-In

Perfect for those days when you feel off but can’t quite name why.
- What am I feeling right now?
- What is the root of this feeling?
- What do I need in this moment?
- A gentle message from my higher self
Journal prompt:
What would I say to a friend who felt this way? Can I offer the same kindness to myself?
Spread 2: Shadow Healing

For when old wounds start to rise or you're feeling emotionally triggered.
- What part of me feels unseen or unheard?
- What is this part trying to protect me from?
- What truth have I been avoiding?
- What would it look like to meet this part of me with love?
- How can I begin to heal this?
Journal prompt:
What am I ready to forgive myself for?
This one is especially powerful if you're already working through shadow work or using the Dark Reflections Tarot. It’s not about fixing yourself. It’s about understanding and care.
Spread 3: Self-Care Compass

When you need guidance but don’t know where to begin, this spread helps you check in with all parts of yourself.
- Mind – What needs attention in my thoughts?
- Body – What is my body asking for?
- Heart – What is going on emotionally?
- Spirit – What can support me on a deeper level?
- One small thing I can do today to feel more balanced
Journal prompt:
What does self-care look like for me right now, in the real world?
Let It Be What It Is

Some days the cards will speak loudly. Other days, they might not make much sense. That’s okay. You’re still showing up. You’re still listening. That alone is powerful.
Self-care isn’t always a big ritual. Sometimes it’s just a few deep breaths, a shuffled deck, and the willingness to feel whatever is present.
If you try any of these spreads or create your own, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re feeling drawn to go deeper, especially with shadow work, the tools are already within you. Your cards are just here to remind you.
